TWO young women have been threatened with a knife in a robbery in central Wellington.

The pair, aged 20 and 21 -- one an Australian visitor, the other a Wellingtonian -- were stopped on the corner of Willis and Ghuznee streets about 2.15am on Saturday by two youths.

They were threatened with a knife and the Wellington woman's handbag was snatched.

She said they had just left a friend's party in Willis St when they were attacked.

They were "just a little bit shaken".

The youths ran to a car, which sped off. Her
embroidered patches friend called the police while she got a description of the car.

Two 16-year-olds were arrested soon after on charges of aggravated robbery. They will appear in Youth Court on Wednesday.
